Welcome to Year 5 — a vibrant, purposeful, and welcoming place to learn.
Each week, our pupils explore a rich and varied curriculum, taking on the roles of writers, historians, scientists, mathematicians, and more. We are proud to uphold our school’s values and to nurture the talents and aspirations of every child. In Year 5, we aim to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and create a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to thrive. You will always find a warm welcome in Year 5!

Monday to Friday
PE days: Monday and Wednesday
Library day: Wednesday
Oxford Reading Tree Book can be changed at any time.
We expect all our children to read every evening and at weekends. In Year 5, 15 minutes should be the minimum, but, if your child can't put their book down because they are so engrossed, that's the magic of reading. It is important to encourage your child to read a range of book genres / styles, but equally, there is no harm in being addicted to a series or specific author! We want children to develop a reading for pleasure mindset.
Homework runs Friday to Friday in Year 5. Each week there will be the following homework set:
Cosmic - Frank Cotrell-Boyce
Lion Witch and The Wardrobe - C.S Lewis
The Demon Headmaster - Gillian Cross
Beetle Boy - M.G Leonard
Wonder - R.J Palacio
Boy at the back of the class - Onjali Q. Rauf
The Girl of Ink and Stars - Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Stitch Head - Guy Bass
Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce is about a tall 12-year-old boy, Liam, who poses as an adult and ends up on a space mission with other kids. Funny and heartfelt, it explores growing up, responsibility, and what it means to be a dad—all while floating in space.
